Gather 256 is so much more than a cafe. It is a community hub, a meeting place, a third space for all of York. In addition to wonderful food (with plenty of gluten-free and vegan options), they make the best latte in town, hands down. There is a second floor that boasts a corner kids' play space, large tables for meetings and other little cozy nooks to work. During the warmer weather, there's an outdoor terrace with a sandpit for the kids. What's more is that the space is always full of inspiring artwork. If you need a gift, it's a great place to stop -- earrings, pottery, wall art, books. There is even a pay-it-forward wall to donate meals and a little plant propagating area to share plants. How cute is that? They host third Fridays with programming, book clubs and more. Gather 256 reminds me of the coffee houses of my teenage years -- homey, comfortable, welcoming, a place to work when you need to be alone, a space to connect when you need a friend. We are so lucky to have it here in York! It is definitely the best coffee shop in town.
This was the next stop on our list and it did not disappoint. Parking was awesome. We were able to get right in front. Let me start by saying as soon as we walked in the door we were greeted and welcomed by the manager. She was pleasant and helpful! We both ordered the thin mint lattes which were served in a real mug not those paper take out ones.I ordered the baked french toast and wow, it was beautiful and delicious, a huge portion to enjoy later. Hubby ordered the ironic breakfast sandwich and said it was good. The chef/owner came over to say hi and check on us. It was amazing. We ventured upstairs to see more seating and the plants. Wow, what a space! They have vintage clothing and items for purchase. As we were leaving, we wanted to check out the outdoor space. Plenty of seating and beautiful. Flowers, plants, veggies. We will definitely be back. If you are looking for a nice, cozy spot for coffee and a bite, stop in!

All out 5 stars, it’s so hard to find a cozy place that makes a good Chai latte. Will definitely be coming back and promoting! I’m looking to move to York soon and knowing this little spot will be such a pick-me-up! Outdoor seating, upstairs and downstairs. Super clean and put together, promoting small artists is huge to me as an artist myself. This place is fantastic. ❤️

Not only were the food and atmosphere amazing, Ari is a fantastic worker. The food was phenomenal, the drinks were delicious, and everyone was so kind! Will definitely be coming back :)
Spacious, traditional coffeehouse owned and operated by an actual chef. Everyone and everything is top notch every single time. Don’t sleep on … the roasted veggie panini, the ramen, the plentiful breakfast sandwich, the shrimp and grits (when available). Local art. Cool gifts. Plenty of space to work or just read a book.
What a fabulous little restaurant in downtown York. The food is yummy, prices are fair and I love the atmosphere. This is mainly a breakfast and lunch place but on the first and third Fridays they have special menu dinner nights. The restaurant also has coffee and teas as well as some artsy gift items. There's an outside area for good weather and such a cozy inside. They are also gluten free friendly. Parking is along the street but we didn't have any problem finding a space with no parallel parking needed.

Gather 256 is one of those places you can tell is built with intention the second you walk in. The space itself is in a beautiful historic building with tons of character, and they’ve done an incredible job blending that charm with a clean, welcoming, well thought out layout. There are multiple areas to sit and work or meet, and the upstairs space is a standout. Big windows, tons of natural light, and a great atmosphere if you need to get things done or just slow down for a bit. You can feel Sarah’s passion in every detail. From the oak barrel Buffalo Trace aged nitro cold brew to the overall vibe, nothing feels random or thrown together. It’s clear she truly cares about the experience. Ari behind the bar was awesome. She nailed my iced Americano with heavy cream perfectly, and her attention to detail didn’t go unnoticed. That kind of service makes a difference. I also grabbed some dark chocolate espresso beans to go, and they were easily some of the best I’ve had. Very cool bonus with the Steph Holmes art studio inside as well. It adds another layer to the space and makes it more than just a coffee shop. This is the kind of place that gets everything right. Coffee, atmosphere, service, and attention to detail. Definitely worth stopping in.
